HC Deb 10 November 1949 vol 469 c1400
68. Mr. Skeffington-Lodge

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer to what extent a dollar drain is incurred in the use of American artwork by British publications.

Mr. Jay

I regret this information is not available.

Mr. Skeffington-Lodge

Is there any reason why American artwork should be imported into this country at all under present conditions, and is my hon. Friend aware that a good many British commercial artists are being put out of work as a result of this kind of thing happening?

Mr. Jay

I do not think that we want to be too restrictive in regard to imports of artistic and literary work.
