asked the Postmaster-General why the times of late posting on mail trains at London railway stations, which were restored 2¼ years ago, and

which are about four hours later than the last collection from pillar boxes, have never been published in the Post Office Guide; and whether he will publish them in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Mr. Wilfred Paling

A general notification of the facility appears in the Supplement which was issued with the July, 1949, edition of the Post Office Guide. The Guide is not a suitable publication in which to give specific information of detailed posting times, which are mainly of local interest. A full statement of these posting times will appear in a publication on postal services in London to be issued next year. Meanwhile, the information is being circulated in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Mr. Keeling

In view of the gloomy record of suppression of pre-war postal services would one not have expected the Post Office to give this gleam of light the widest publicity instead of waiting for 2¼ years?

Mr. Paling

We gave the matter publicity at the time. Whether it was sufficient or not is a matter of opinion.

Mr. Grimston

Is it not a fact that this service was re-introduced 2½ years ago and that it was not until last July that an announcement of it was made in a supplement to the Post Office Guide? Is that an indication of the sort of publicity which is being given to Post Office services?

I think that was due to the fact that publication of the previous guide had been begun just before this happened.
