asked the Minister of Food why the grant of a special meat allowance to miners to stimulate the output of coal has not been extended to persons engaged in the mining of metals or in other heavy work for the production of goods for export.

Mr. Strachey

I am afraid that we have not enough meat to extend special rationing in this way; moreover there is a great deal to be said for devoting increased supplies of food as they occur to the ordinary domestic ration.
