HC Deb 07 November 1949 vol 469 c877
31. Mr. Keeling

asked the Minister of Food whether he has any further statement to make in respect of the comparison between the annual rate of the combined flour and bread subsidy before devaluation and at present.

Mr. Strachey

Yes, Sir. The figures I gave in reply to the hon. Member's Question on 24th October understated the amount of the total bread and flour subsidy both before and after devaluation. The annual rate of subsidy is now estimated at £99.3 million, against a rate of £98.8 million immediately before devaluation. But I must warn the hon. Member that these are estimates and the actual figures realised will depend upon the rate of consumption and the price of future purchases of wheat and flour.
