HC Deb 03 November 1949 vol 469 c565
4. Squadron-Leader Sir Gifford Fox

asked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations how many cases so far have been brought to his attention of persons who have, until now been regarded as British subjects by birth, although born in India, who now find since the passing of the British Nationality Act, 1948, that they are neither citizens of the United Kingdom nor citizens of India and what action it is proposed to take to provide for such cases.

Mr. Gordon-Walker

No such cases have been brought to my notice and I do not think it would be possible for there to be any. The effect of the British Nationality Act, 1948, is that British subjects who are not citizens of the United Kingdom and who fail to obtain the citizenship of any other country of the Commonwealth shall be given United Kingdom citizenship.

Sir G. Fox

Will the Minister look carefully into a case if I send it to him?

Mr. Gordon-Walker

Naturally, Sir.
