HC Deb 18 May 1949 vol 465 c413
24. Squadron-Leader Fleming

asked the Postmaster-General how many applicants in the city of Manchester are still waiting for telephones; and how many new instruments were installed in the year ending 30th April, 1949.

Mr. Wilfred Paling

At 30th April, 1949, 12,518 applications for telephone service were outstanding in the city of Manchester. During the previous 12 months 9,036 new telephones were installed.

Squadron-Leader Fleming

Is any priority given to business or professional men, or are their applications just taken in rotation?

Mr. Paling

Business people have priority, and a rather high priority.
