HC Deb 05 May 1949 vol 464 c1200
16. Mr. Hurd

asked the Minister of Health if he has considered the criticisms of the Hungerford Rural District Council about the handling of the Lambourn Sewerage Scheme by his Department; and if he will take early steps to review the whole matter so that progress can be made with this scheme, which has been awaiting his approval since May, 1946.

Mr. Bevan

I am sending the hon. Member a copy of a letter which has been addressed to the rural district council on the subject.

Mr. Hurd

I have had the opportunity of seeing that, but does not the Minister agree that the futile fiddling of his Department for three years on this scheme has merely added more to the cost and limited the use of it to the local residents?

Mr. Bevan

I certainly cannot agree that because a Department is carrying out the Statutes which this House has imposed upon it, it is delaying local schemes.

Mr. Hurd

Three years?

Mr. Bevan

Certainly.
