HC Deb 05 May 1949 vol 464 cc1215-6
62. Major Tufton Beamish

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury the nature of the financial arrangement proposed between the Treasury and the Henry Wood Memorial Trust for the rebuilding of the Queen's Hall, London; and, in particular, the part to be played by the Trust Fund of £70,000 publicly subscribed by music-lovers for this rebuilding.

63. Mrs. Ayrton Gould

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury if the Queen's Hall will be a national concert hall; and what will be the nature of the governing body set up to administer it.

Mr. Glenvil Hall

I am not at present able to add to the reply which I gave the hon. and gallant Member on 2nd May.

Major Beamish

Can the Financial Secretary say what would be suitable time to put down another Question, as there is so much public interest in this matter?

Mr. Glenvil Hall

Consultations are going on. At this juncture I cannot say how long they will take, but we are doing our best to expedite them.

Mrs. Gould

Can my right hon. Friend make some statement when we are likely to know whether the Queen's Hall will be a national concert hall under some form of trust or whether it will be a private commercial concern?

Mr. Glenvil Hall

I really cannot add to what I was able to say a few days ago in reply to the Question by the hon. and gallant Member.
