§ 39. Mr. David Rentonasked the Minister of Transport whether he will take steps to have a thorough analysis made of ownership of C licence vehicles showing, in particular, how many are held by local authorities, public utility undertakings and nationalised industries, respectively, so that hon. Members and students of transport may have the information necessary to form opinions as to the advantages or otherwise of the C licence system.
§ Mr. BarnesNo, Sir. The labour involved would not be justified at the present time.
§ Mr. RentonIs not the right hon. Gentleman aware that on both sides of the House there is a great thirst for knowledge about this matter and that he alone can cause these figures to be produced; therefore, will he say why the effort is not worth the satisfaction that would be given by the possession of that knowledge?
§ Mr. BarnesI have already taken considerable steps to obtain information about C licences and that is available, but in this case the proposal would mean the diversion of labour from more important work.
