HC Deb 23 March 1949 vol 463 c374
58. Colonel Hutchison

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation what saving per annum is expected to result from the moving of the British Overseas Airways Corporation maintenance base from Dorval to Filton as a result of cutting out dead flying between New York and Dorval.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation (Mr. Lindgren)

The immediate saving on direct costs of dead flying arising from the move from Dorval to Filton is estimated at £15,000 for the coming financial year. It is hoped that this figure can be progressively improved upon by closer integration of maintenance flying with the Corporation's other operations.

Colonel Hutchison

In view of the very small saving which the hon. Gentleman has revealed in that answer, would he agree with the report of the Corporation that this dead flying is one of the main contributory factors to the losses made?

Mr. Lindgren

No, Sir.
