HC Deb 15 March 1949 vol 462 cc1903-4
58. Mr. D. Marshall

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware that the system of tax depletion allowances in foreign countries gives a far greater incentive to production of nonferrous minerals than the system in vogue in this country; and if he will consider the introduction of the percentage depletion method in this country, together with the abolition of Profits Tax on wasting assets, in order to encourage the home production of mineral wealth.

Sir S. Cripps

I cannot anticipate my Budget Statement.

Mr. Marshall

In spite of the answer the Chancellor has given, will he take this matter into consideration before 6th April?

Sir S. Cripps

I am always prepared to take anything into consideration.
