§ 65. Sir W. Smithersasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if, when framing his Budget, he will, in the national interest, abolish the petrol tax for farmers' tractors.
§ Sir S. CrippsThe hon. Member will not expect me to anticipate the Budget Statement.
§ Sir W. SmithersWhat is the good of the Minister of Agriculture appealing for increased production when the Chancellor does nothing to help that appeal and even tries to sabotage the efforts of the Minister of Agriculture and the growers? May I further ask him why he does not 1907 have a gramophone put on the Box in front of him to repeat "I cannot anticipate my Budget Statement"?
§ Sir S. CrippsIn reply to the second part of the question, if the hon. Gentleman will supply it, and you, Mr. Speaker, will give permission, I will see what can be done. As regards the first part of the question, I would point out to the hon. Gentleman that this Government have done more for the farming population than any other Government ever did before.
