asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the lowest grade of official who may use motorcars of the official motorcar service for private journeys on repayment; and what is the maximum monthly repayment mileage permitted to any individual.

Sir S. Cripps

No persons other than Ministers are entitled to use the official car service for private journeys on repayment. There is no limit of mileage such as is suggested in the second part of the Question.

Will the Minister's answer ensure that minor officials in future will not be allowed to use these cars for joy rides?

They are not now.
