Hannonasked the Minister of Education if he has now considered proposals for the extension of training in management in technical colleges and schools with special reference to the engineering industry; and if training, with this object in view, will be encouraged in the technical departments of secondary schools.
§ Mr. TomlinsonYes, Sir. A scheme for the issue of certificates and diplomas in management studies has been drawn up by my Department in co-operation with the British Institute of Management. The scheme closely follows the recommendations of the Urwick Committee, and I hope that it will be acceptable to the engineering industry. I do not think specific training for management would be appropriate in the curricula of secondary schools.
§ Sir P. HannonWhile thanking the right hon. Gentleman for his reply, may I ask if he will keep in contact with the Institution of Production Engineers and the Institution of Management Engineers, both of whom are anxious about this matter?
