HC Deb 30 June 1949 vol 466 cc1494-5
18. Mr. Osborne

asked the President of the Board of Trade, to what extent, and in what industries, in order to secure export orders for British manufacturers, he has so fixed prices for home sales that goods can be sold abroad at or below cost of production, and the foreign buyer be subsidised by the home consumer.

The President of the Board of Trade (Mr. Harold Wilson)

None, Sir.

Mr. Osborne

Is it the policy of the Government that exports, especially to dollar markets, should be sold at prices lower than prices which obtain at home?

Mr. Wilson

I think it is the policy of everyone here that exports should be sold at reasonable competitive prices but I would not like to dogmatise about what those prices might be in relation to home prices.
