§ 44. Mr. Norman Bowerasked the Minister of Health if he is aware that the United Dental Technicians' Association is desirous of becoming a professional body whose members will be qualified to take impressions, make dentures and supply them to the public without the intervention of a dentist; and if he will introduce legislation for this purpose.
§ Mr. BevanI am aware of the proposals of this body but I am not prepared to introduce legislation on the lines suggested.
§ Mr. BowerIs the Minister aware that it has been computed that if this were done, the cost of dentures would be reduced from £10 10s. to £7 15s., and is not that a matter which is worthy of careful consideration?
§ Mr. BevanI am not convinced that the standards of dentistry would be maintained. Of course, we can reduce the cost of dentistry if we reduce the quality of the dentures.
