Mr. Langford-Holtasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what steps he has taken as a result of the Chinese Communist official broadcast to the effect that the British Government are following an anti-Chinese policy, constituting a challenge to the Chinese people which would certainly lead to grave consequences.
§ Mr. MayhewOur policy is to maintain the friendliest possible relations with the Chinese people, and I should like to take this opportunity of making it clear that the statement that the policy of His Majesty's Government is anti-Chinese is the reverse of the truth.
§ Mr. Langford-HoltIs the Minister aware that this report which was broadcast by the B.B.C. was withdrawn after only one broadcast? Does he agree that it is highly undesirable to maintain any secrecy over the attitude of foreign Governments or peoples to our foreign policy.
