asked the Secretary to the Treasury whether he will make a statement about the future of the Steel Distribution Scheme.

Yes, Sir. Supplies of steel include imports from hard currency sources, and finished steel is also an important United Kingdom export. In our present gold and dollar situation, therefore, it would clearly be unwise to relax control of distribution. For the time being the machinery for allocation will continue to apply to the same types of finished steel as at present.
