HC Deb 20 July 1949 vol 467 c1345
6. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that the postal services in Aberdeen have not been restored to their pre-war effectiveness and are insufficient, that the Chamber of Commerce, the business community and others complain of this; and when he will have the defects in it rectified.

Mr. Paling

Yes, Sir. I regret that the national manpower position does not yet permit of any general improvement in postal services.

Mr. Hughes

Is the Postmaster-General aware that letters posted in the City of Aberdeen after 5.45 are not delivered until the second post the next day, while letters posted in Aberdeenshire and Banffshire are delivered by the first post the next day? Is he aware that there is an anomaly which should be rectified? [HON. MEMBERS: "Where?"] In the City of Aberdeen. Will the Postmaster-General take steps to rectify this anomaly?

Mr. Paling

If my hon. and learned Friend has any particular problem in Aberdeen and will let me know the particulars, I will inquire into it.
