HC Deb 18 July 1949 vol 467 c947
11. Mr. Scott-Elliot

asked the Minister of Food whether he is aware that the quality of split peas available to the public has deteriorated during the past year; and what steps he is taking to improve the quality.

Mr. Strachey

Recent supplies of yellow peas for splitting have been obtained from Denmark and Sweden and their quality has been very satisfactory. Green peas for splitting are mainly imported from Morocco and are also of good quality.

Mr. Scott-Elliot

Will my right hon. Friend agree to look at a sample of these split peas, if I send them to him, which will show him how difficult they are to make into soup.

Mr. Strachey

Certainly.
