§ 37. Mr. Walter Fletcherasked the Minister of Transport what consideration has been given to the timing of road repairs in the West End of London in relation to peak traffic periods.
§ Mr. BarnesThe timing of road works in the West End is in accordance with a programme which I have prescribed. I realise that this year there has been considerable inconvenience, mainly owing to the extensive works necessary to make up for the war-time arrears of maintenance, but I will make every effort to prevent this incurring such inconvenience in future.
§ Mr. FletcherIn view of the reply given to the previous Question, in which the Minister referred to the wastage of fuel 960 and to wear and tear of vehicles, does not the right hon. Gentleman think that a better plan than this could have been produced, for this one does lead to great waste as well as to loss of time and to inconvenience?
§ Mr. BarnesI always agree, in respect to all these matters, that improvements could probably be achieved. If the hon. Member will consider the last part of my reply, he will perceive that I am taking that probability into consideration.
