HC Deb 18 July 1949 vol 467 cc971-2
66. Mr. Turton

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he is aware that, as a result of his refusal to grant additional petrol to valuers where current supplementary ration has been exhausted in the preparation of claims under the Town and Country Planning Act, appeals to the Land Tribunal and tenant right valuations are being held up, and great inconvenience and loss is being caused to the agricultural community; and whether he will reconsider this decision.

Mr. Gaitskell

No, Sir. Regional petroleum officers were authorised to grant special allowances to valuers and surveyors with which to carry out the extra work they were called upon to perform in connection with the preparation and submission of claims under the Town and Country Planning Act.

Mr. Turton

Is the Minister aware that I have been writing to him for the last six weks about a part of the country where valuation has been held up through the refusal of his regional officer to grant extra petrol for this work?

Mr. Gaitskell

I can only say that in the cases I am aware of, there has been no refusal of a reasonable claim for extra petrol.
