60. Mr. Piratin

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what are the respective financial totals contributed by the United Kingdom and the United States of America Governments to the Joint Export-Import Agency.

Mr. Mayhew

The sum contributed by the two Governments to the capital of the Agency amounts to approximately £15,750,000 each. In addition, His Majesty's Government have, since 1st January, 1948, when the agreement of 17th December, 1947, came into operation, spent about £25 million from appropriated funds on goods and services for the German economy, and during the same period the United States Government have spent from appropriated funds about £250 million as well as providing aid under the Economic Co-operation Act to the Bizone of about £100 million.
