HC Deb 27 January 1949 vol 460 cc1095-6
42. Mr. Oliver

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power what amount has been paid in compensation to servants of colliery undertakings for loss, of office or employment by reason of the passing of the Coal Industry Nationalisation Act, 1946.

Mr. Gaitskell

I would refer my hon. Friend to the National Coal Board's annual report and accounts for 1947 which show that, during that year, the Board provided £406,192 to meet claims for compensation for loss of office, out of which £109,646 was paid and the remainder set aside for deferred liabilities.

Mr. Fernyhough

Can the Minister say how many individuals this was divided among?

Mr. Gaitskell

No, I have not that information, and I doubt if it would be easy to obtain.
