§ 22. Mr. Awberyasked the Minister of Supply why the production of passenger service vehicles was reduced at the motor construction works of the Bristol Tramways and Carriage Company Limited when there is an unsatisfied demand for such vehicles.
§ Mr. G. R. StraussThe company's future programme has not yet been 547 finally settled, and it is hoped it will enable them to maintain production at an economic level. A limit must, however, be placed at present on the resources devoted to the satisfaction of home demand.
§ Mr. AwberyIs it not rumoured that the number of chassis is to be reduced from 24, the capacity of the works, to 12; further, will my right hon. Friend give an assurance that the number allocated to these plants will be in accordance with the capacity of the plants?
§ Mr. StraussI do not think that I can give an undertaking in those terms. We are trying to arrange a programme for these works which will enable them to carry on economically.
