Viscount Hinchingbrookeasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has instituted inquiries into allegations made in the course of evidence given in the Central Criminal Court on 29th November, 1948, that an official of his Department had had to be paid in connection with a sale of table-cloths and table napkins at a price exceeding the permitted maximum; and what action he has taken as the result of the observations of the Lord Chief Justice.
§ Mr. H. WilsonThe police were consulted and the Lord Chief Justice's observations were brought to the notice of the Director of Public Prosecutions. The official against whom the allegations were made ceased to be employed by the Board of Trade in January, 1945, and is now dead.
