asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he will now announce the rate of hill cattle subsidy for England and Wales for 1949.

Yes, Sir. I have decided that the rate of subsidy shall be £4 per head for breeding cows and heifers suckling calves and £2 17s. 6d. per head for other eligible cattle. The necessary order under Section 14 (3) of the Hill Farming Act, 1946, will be laid before Parliament shortly.
