21. Lieut.-Colonel Sir Thomas Moore

asked the Minister of Works how many applications have reached him from London firms for permits to restore or rebuild bombed premises; and how many he has refused.

I regret that detailed figures are not available.

With the war four years over and the Festival of Britain two years ahead, does not the right hon. Gentleman think that something should be done quickly to repair these ugly gaps in our main thoroughfares, which are, after all, the shop windows of Britain?

Mr. Key

I most certainly think so, but I was not asked that question. I was asked about the number of cases, and I have said that the figures are not available. My experience is that pretty well four out of every five applications made for this purpose are granted.

It is hard to see any sign of it.
