HC Deb 24 February 1949 vol 461 cc2011-2
66. Mrs. Leah Manning

asked the Minister of Education if he is aware of the proposal of the East Ham education authority to build two schools with playing fields on 19 acres of Wanstead Flats; and what steps he intends taking in view of the result of the public inquiry held by the Ministry of Town and Country Planning in 1947 when the West Ham authority sought powers to build houses on the same flats.

Mr. Tomlinson

Yes, Sir. The proposal was contained in the Development Plan for the authority's area which I approved on 17th August, 1948, subject to further consideration of the details of individual projects as and when submitted to me for approval. This particular proposal has not yet been submitted and I do not, therefore, intend to take any steps in the matter at present.

Mrs. Manning

Does my right hon. Friend realise that, if he will take the appropriate steps, he will short-circuit the expensive legal procedure of the last inquiry held on this matter which has not been paid for yet?

Mr. Tomlinson

That is one of the circumstances which will be taken into consideration.
