HC Deb 21 February 1949 vol 461 cc1589-90
75. Mr. Albu

asked the Minister of Transport whether it is his intention to set up a transport users' committee for the London area; and, if so, when he expects to be in a position to announce its composition.

Mr. Barnes

I am considering the setting up of a transport users' consultative committee for the London area, and I hope to be able to make a further announcement in the near future.

Mr. Albu

In view of the great dissatisfaction with transport in many parts of London, does not my right hon. Friend think it would be advantageous to have such a committee set up before he finally approves the scheme for London transport submitted by the Transport Commission?

Mr. Barnes

I do not think a consultative committee would affect the decision in regard to the expansion programme of the railway plan for London.

Mr. Godfrey Nicholson

Will there be any ordinary people on the committee?

Mr. Barnes

As a matter of fact, all the people on these committees are ordinary people.
