Mr. Murrayasked the Minister of Food if he will make a statement as to what provision he is making for an extra allowance of sugar for home jam making; if he is aware that the soft fruit season is approaching; and what steps he is taking to prevent a recurrence of last year's wastage of fruit through lack of sugar.
§ Mr. StracheyThis year we shall issue 7 1b. of sugar for jam making per ration book during the six ration periods from 24th April to 11th September. Therefore, a family of four will get this year 28 1b. of sugar for jam making over and above the increased ration. The bonuses will be of 1 lb. each, except in the period starting on 19th June, when there will be a 2 lb. bonus.
