HC Deb 10 February 1949 vol 461 c505
6. Mr. Hurd

asked the President of the Board of Trade if the Government have now finally disposed of the stocks of Australian wool accumulated during the war.

Mr. H. Wilson

Of the stocks of 6.8 million bales of Australian wool, five million had been disposed of up to 31st December, 1948, by the United Kingdom-Dominion Wool Disposals Limited, the joint organisation set up for the purpose of the disposal of all accumulated stocks of Dominion wool.

Mr. Hurd

Can the right hon. Gentleman say if most of this wool was sold for dollars?

Mr. Wilson

I could not say without notice. I should want notice to show into what markets the wool was sold. My impression is that a large proportion of it did go for sale for sterling.
