HC Deb 01 December 1949 vol 470 cc1323-4
64. Mr. Palmer

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will now make a further statement on the refusal of certain manufacturers of model aircraft accessories to charge Purchase Tax on goods sold to the public, under the provisions of the Finance Act, 1948.

The Economic Secretary to the Treasury (Mr. Douglas Jay)

A writ was issued in the High Court on 27th June and the matter is now sub judice.

Mr. Palmer

Is my hon. Friend aware that this unreasonably long delay is most unfair to firms which are obeying the law?

Mr. Jay

We have been very anxious to minimise the delay, but it was due to the difficulty in obtaining the information necessary to bring the matter into court.
