HC Deb 01 December 1949 vol 470 cc1313-4
45. Mr. Ronald Chamberlain

asked the Prime Minister what major economies in expenditure on the Armed Forces he is now able to announce in consequence of the comprehensive review by the Government of the future structure of the Armed Forces.

The Prime Minister (Mr. Attlee)

I have no further announcement to make at present.

Mr. Chamberlain

While appreciating the various pressures to which the Prime Minister is naturally subjected, may I ask whether he is aware that the people of this country will not agree to the continued expenditure of more than £2 million every day of the year in the mistaken idea that this will make the world secure for the United States of America and for this country?
