HC Deb 23 September 1948 vol 456 c1068
13. Commander Maitland

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power the reason for the decline of house coal stocks in the Spilsby district of Lincolnshire; and what steps he is taking to restore supplies to prevent hardship during the wintertime in this area.

Mr. Gaitskell

Had coal merchants in the Spilsby district taken their full allocation of opencast coal, the stocks in that area would have been at a satisfactory level. It is hoped, however, to restore the stock position in the next few weeks by sending to Spilsby a part of the coal which is being switched from London to the North.
