HC Deb 23 September 1948 vol 456 c1086
56. Colonel Crosthwaite-Eyre

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer, in view of the Paris agreement what is the revised estimate for the current financial year of releases from sterling balances.

The Economic Secretary to the Treasury (Mr. Douglas Jay)

Technical arrangements for the financing of deficits out of existing sterling holdings have not yet been completed. I can, however, say that at any rate the greater part of this financing will be from unrestricted sterling accounts where no question of releases comes in.
