HC Deb 23 September 1948 vol 456 cc1077-8
40. Mr. Bossom

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what regulations he is making due to the conditions arising out of the Representation of the People Act, 1948, as to the approximate number of electors to be allocated to each polling district in rural areas.

Mr. Ede

None, Sir. The rules for dividing a constituency into polling districts are laid down by Section 7 of the Act and I have no power to add to them.

Mr. Bossom

If an election should be held during very bad weather, with the limitation on cars conveying people to the polls, would the right hon. Gentleman look into the matter to see if it could be made easier for all parties to get their constituents to the poll to vote on that occasion?

Mr. Ede

Section 7 of the Act has been designed with that object in view.
