HC Deb 23 September 1948 vol 456 cc1058-9
4. Commander Noble

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power how much petrol has been obtained on forged coupons since 1st June and how this compares with the corresponding period for 1947 and 1946.

Mr. Gaitskell

No exact estimate can be made, but I am satisfied that the amount of petrol obtained through forged coupons did not exceed 20 tons a week at the beginning of June last and has since decreased considerably as a result of the action taken. Comparable figures for 1946 and 1947 are not available.

Colonel Dower

Can the Minister give an indication how many gallons there are in 20 tons?

Mr. Gaitskell

There are 300 gallons in a ton.
