HC Deb 23 September 1948 vol 456 c1070
23. Mr. Skeffington-Lodge

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he will publish the results of the investigation undertaken in connection with the pledge given that the Bankside Power Station project would not be proceeded with if the oil fuel burned there was found to emit fumes harmful to nearby buildings.

Mr. Gaitskell

Yes, Sir. I will inform the House of the results of the tests, but they will not be available until next spring.

Mr. Keeling

May we take it that the Dean of St. Paul's, or his representative, who is very much interested in this because of the possible effects of fumes on the fabric of the Cathedral, will be able to acquaint himself at firsthand with the results of these investigations?

Mr. Gaitskell

I see no objection to that.

24. Mr. Skeffington-Lodge

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he will make a statement regarding the progress so far made in establishing a new power station at Bankside.

Mr. Gaitskell

One pilot plant has been completed and is in commission, and the other should be finished by the end of next month. Work is continuing on the foundations of the main generating station.
