§ 10. Commander Nobleasked the Minister of Labour whether it is the practice to call up a young man who has served a short period of regular engagement in one of the services for National Service in the same service.
§ Mr. IsaacsThis would depend on whether the young man was acceptable to the Service concerned.
§ Commander NobleCan the Minister say whether there is any check-up on these cases, because I know of a young man who, after serving a short period in the Navy, has now been called up for National Service in the Army?
§ Mr. IsaacsYes, Sir. There is a check-up. We find, however, that some young men who volunteer and join a Service prove unsuitable for that particular Service, and we cannot, therefore, return them to the Service for which they have been found to be unsuitable.
§ Commander NobleWill the Minister consider this case if I send him details?
§ Mr. IsaacsCertainly, Sir.
