HC Deb 25 November 1948 vol 458 cc1394-5
27. Mr. De la Bère

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he is aware that farmers who are making a substantial contribution to the food supplies of the country by way of milk production and the supply of other foodstuffs are having withheld from them supplies of petrol for essential journeys in their farm cars; and if he will issue instructions for petrol to be supplied to farmers for these purposes.

Mr. Gaitskell

No, Sir. On the contrary, the agreement between my Department and the National Farmers' Union, which is set out in a letter of which I am sending the hon. Member a copy, is working very satisfactorily.

Mr. De la Bère

Is the right hon Gentleman aware that the position is not entirely satisfactory? In view of the difficulties in this matter will he be very kind and see me afterwards in order to discuss this matter?

Mr. Gaitskell indicated assent.
