HC Deb 25 November 1948 vol 458 cc1387-8
16. Mr. Sutcliffe

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware of the difficulty in obtaining supplies of dental X-ray films; and if he will authorise an increase in production for the home market.

18. Mr. Touche

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that some dentists have been informed that they will be unable to obtain any X-ray films for three months owing to the fact that manufacturers have had to increase their export quota; and whether he will take steps to remedy the position.

Mr. H. Wilson

Yes, Sir. In consultation with my right hon. Friend the Minister of Health, I am seeing what can be done to improve the position.

Mr. Sutcliffe

Is the Minister aware that in some cases dentists have been unable to take these photographs owing to lack of films? Will he expedite the matter?

Mr. Wilson

Yes, Sir, I am aware of that. The reason for the shortage is that in spite of increased production there is a much greater use of this form of film by dentists at the present time.

Mr. Touche

Is the Minister also aware that some dentists are informed that they cannot get supplies for three months? Can he do something to shorten that period?

Mr. Wilson

I have said that we are going into the matter with the Ministry of Health.
