HC Deb 24 November 1948 vol 458 c1238
39. Mr. Emrys Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what British films other than "A Tale of Two Cities," have been banned at Singapore; who is the film censor; what are his qualifications; and what kind of films has he been instructed to pass.

Mr. Creech Jones

As regards the second and third parts of the Question, the Official Film Censor is Mr. J. Evans who, prior to his appointment had had 11 years' experience of film work in this country. As regards the first and fourth parts of the Question, I am obtaining the necessary information.

Mr. Hughes

Will the Minister give an assurance that in the meantime, whilst he is awaiting this information, "Hamlet" will not be banned in Singapore?
