HC Deb 24 November 1948 vol 458 c1245
52. Mr. York

asked the Minister of Food whether he will consider giving preferential rations to single persons living alone and to adolescents.

Mr. Strachey

I appreciate fully the difficulties of people living alone and of adolescents but, for the reasons which have been repeatedly given to the House, I do not think these difficulties can be met by means of preferential rations.

Mr. York

Is the House to understand that the Minister's Parliamentary Private Secretary was not giving the policy of the Government when he spoke on the wireless a week or two ago and said that he was in favour of this preferential ration?

Mr. Strachey

The hon. Member must call my attention to any particular words he may have in mind in that connection.
