HC Deb 24 November 1948 vol 458 c1222
13. Mr. Rankin

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he is now prepared to withdraw the British Police Mission from Greece.

The Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs (Mr. Mayhew)

No, Sir.

Mr. Rankin

In view of the fact that the Greek police are the instruments of law and order and that we are training them through our Police Mission, does not my hon. Friend think that that conflicts with the statement that we are not responsible for the administration of Greek justice?

Mr. Mayhew

No, Sir, I do not think there is any conflict there. We are responsible for advising on the organisation and training of the police, but that is a different matter from being responsible for the administration of justice in Greece.
