30. Professor Savory

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs the numbers of the staff at the British Legation at Addis Ababa.

Mr. Mayhew

The staff at the British Legation, Addis Ababa, at present totals 18, including His Majesty's Minister.

Professor Savory

Is the hon. Gentleman satisfied that this staff is adequate, in view of the enormous increase in the personnel of the Soviet Legation, and the attempts at Communist propaganda and peaceful penetration on exactly the same lines as those revealed by the judicial inquiry held in Canada.

Mr. Mayhew

We cannot expect the rise and fall of our establishments in foreign missions to keep pace with those of the Soviet missions.

Mr. Gallacher
