HC Deb 17 November 1948 vol 458 c365
41. Mr. Erroll

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will make a statement regarding the present position of the Alake of Abeokuta.

Mr. Rees-Williams

The Alake left Abeokuta on 29th July after demonstrations against him had taken place. He then took up residence in a neighbouring Province, where, I understand, he is still considering his future.

Mr. Erroll

What do the British Government intend to do about his future and the future of the people over whom he was formerly ruling with considerable benevolence?

Mr. Rees-Williams

That is a matter for the people over whom he was formerly ruling.
