HC Deb 16 November 1948 vol 458 c177
8. Sir Wavell Wakefield

asked the Secretary of State for War if he will give an assurance that British Army personnel seconded to Pakistan who are entitled to release leave and overseas leave will not forfeit these rights if they are still under contract to Pakistan when the state of emergency is declared ended.

Mr. Shinwell

This matter is under consideration.

Sir W. Wakefield

Will the Secretary of State give an assurance that the hard-earned rights of these men—because they continued to serve the Commonwealth to advantage—will not be taken away from them?

Mr. Shinwell

I could not give any such assurance. As I say, the matter is under consideration. In the meantime, the question does not arise because release arrangements continue. What might happen subsequently is another matter.
