26. Mr. H. D. Hughesasked the Minister of Town and Country Planning if his attention has been drawn to the recommendation of the Gathering Grounds Sub-committee concerning public access to these grounds; whether full weight is being given to this in the policy of his Department; and what steps he is taking to secure access where it is at present prohibited.
§ Mr. SilkinThe answer to the first two parts of my hon. Friend's Question is, "Yes." With regard to the third part, I am in consultation with my right hon. Friend the Minister of Health and hope that as a result it will be possible to secure in due course that full advantage is taken of the recommendations of the Sub-committee.
Mr. HughesIs the Minister aware that over half of the major water authorities listed in the appendix to this report are at present restricting access to a degree not warranted in view of the recommendations of the report, and would he speed up the action which he is now taking?
§ Mr. SilkinI am very interested in my hon. Friend's information, and I will certainly speed up a decision.
