HC Deb 16 November 1948 vol 458 cc180-1
16. Mr. George Jeger

asked the Secretary of State for War, why he has now rejected Mr. Bartlett's claim for Calcutta Detention Allowance, first submitted in January, 1946, and which has been the subject of correspondence since July, 1947.

Mr. Shinwell

This was a claim under Indian regulations. I have made full inquiries of the competent Indian pay authorities, and I am satisfied that the claim has been correctly disallowed. The original claim stated to have been submitted cannot be traced, and the officer stated to have signed the detention certificate was not the competent authority for the issue of such a certificate.
