§ 16. Mr. George Jegerasked the Secretary of State for War, why he has now 181 rejected Mr. Bartlett's claim for Calcutta Detention Allowance, first submitted in January, 1946, and which has been the subject of correspondence since July, 1947.
§ Mr. ShinwellThis was a claim under Indian regulations. I have made full inquiries of the competent Indian pay authorities, and I am satisfied that the claim has been correctly disallowed. The original claim stated to have been submitted cannot be traced, and the officer stated to have signed the detention certificate was not the competent authority for the issue of such a certificate.
